The community of Abadan has a sadly dark record regarding the disappearance of women and so-called "honor" killings. Serial murders and mysterious disappearances reflect a bitter reality that the women of this city grapple with.

Chain of Pain and Suffering

Farid Baghlani, a serial killer who strangled 15 women (and a boy) by the Bahmanshir River on his bicycle, is just one of the terrifying faces of this story. Fatemeh Barikhi, who was beheaded by her husband by the river, the 16-year-old Fatemeh whose body parts were recently found in a garbage dump in Abadan, and Fatemeh Mashali, a young girl who disappeared years ago in the area of Tehlanjis and whose body was discovered in the river after several weeks, are just a glimpse of the chain of disappearances, abductions, suicides, and murders of women in Abadan.

These incidents not only indicate the lack of safety for women in this city but also reveal deeper causes that are embedded within society. Neglecting women's rights and ignoring their voices has led to such situations. Does anyone hear the voices of these women?
