The appointment of Kiamarz Haji Zadeh as the Deputy for Development and the Governor of Khuzestan, which took place in May of this year, continues to face many controversies and protests.
Haji Zadeh, who has experience working as a nurse and administering IVs and injections in hospitals, now holds one of the most important managerial positions in the province and plays a significant role in major decision-making in Khuzestan. However, his previous records, especially in crisis management, have been a serious point of criticism.
Crisis Management and Ineffective Records
Haji Zadeh's background as the Deputy for Coordination of Urban Affairs in Kohgiluyeh and Boyer-Ahmad Province and as the Director General of Crisis Management in Khuzestan has raised concerns. During his management in the 2019 flood, he acted in such a crisis-inducing manner that oversight bodies called for his dismissal. Multiple cases related to the spending of aid and the appropriation of state land are among the issues that have yet to be clarified.
Additionally, Haji Zadeh's role in the project to transfer water from the Aala River to Dishmok is another controversial topic. Experts believe that this project could threaten agriculture in Baghmalek and pose a risk to the destruction of two million palm trees and the Shadgan wetland.
Critics ask how a person with this level of ambiguity and open cases continues to hold a managerial position in the province. With ongoing criticisms, it seems the time for the end of his controversial tenure in the Khuzestan governorate may have arrived.
