Reports and narratives published in some media and political circles in Iran have recently brought up the name "Hatef Salehi" in connection with a series of contradictory political, media, and economic roles that are corrupt and problematic.
From Snapp Driver to Political Figure
Hatef Salehi, known as a Snapp driver, is also considered a principlist analyst and a dual-faced figure in governments and quasi-security currents. He introduced himself as a cultural data mining specialist in the mid-2010s, while simultaneously being involved in corrupt economic and political activities with multifunctional responsibilities.
However, alongside his responsibilities in the subsidiaries of the Ministry of Labor and the Pension Fund, he also played the role of a critic of the ministers in the Raisi government and became a media ally of some of the most corrupt managers of quasi-public companies.
Arrest and Political Controversies
The starting point of Salehi's fame was his arrest alongside Ali Ghafarian, the editor-in-chief of the Seraat News website. This arrest occurred following the claim of Vahid Haqaniyan, a former special assistant to the Supreme Leader, regarding a poll conducted by Ebrahim Raisi about his leadership. These events marked a turning point in Salehi's political path, linking him to the most corrupt managers of quasi-public companies.
Over time, Salehi became a controversial figure in political gatherings; however, the project to turn him into a political celebrity quickly failed, and he descended to being a third-rate broker for corrupt oil and petrochemical managers.
Ultimately, what remains of Hatef Salehi is merely a third-rate actor in the realm of economic and political corruption, who is somehow in pursuit of financial interests and economic opportunities within the system.
