The recent behavior of the official media of the Islamic Republic towards the victims of the bloody December has once again revealed the deep rift between the media authority and the wounded society of Iran.
Humiliation on National Airwaves
The insult by the Islamic Republic's IRIB to the bodies of the victims of the bloody December yesterday was not a media slip, but a clear indication of the continuation of an approach that has dominated this organization for years. This behavior is nothing but pouring salt on the wounds of a people who are still in shock from the violence and repression of those days and are unlikely to overcome the psychological and social consequences anytime soon.
Propaganda and Security Organization
IRIB, which in recent years, especially during political and social turning points, has become more of a propaganda and security arm of the regime than a media outlet for information dissemination. This organization has played an active role in reproducing violence and creating false dichotomies, from preparing forced confessions to legitimizing repression.
The result of such a path is the complete loss of media authority and the transformation of this institution into a media outlet that even many traditional supporters of the regime have no desire to follow.
