Ebrahim Saghayi Foomani, the nephew of Mohammad Baqer Nobakht, the former Vice President, has once again taken a management seat. His appointment as the manager of Payvand Toos, one of the subsidiaries of the Ministry of Oil, has reignited the topic of assigning managerial positions based on political and familial relationships.
Saghayi's Challenging Path in the Petrochemical World
Saghayi Foomani, during Hassan Rouhani's presidency, relied on this family connection to reach the management of Farabi Petrochemical; however, in 2018, he was dismissed due to poor performance and multiple violations. After this failure, Nobakht recommended him as the chairman and board member of Ghadir Petrochemical, but this appointment also did not lead to success.
It seems that Nobakht decided to appoint his nephew as the CEO of Pad Kish Energy Development (TAPCO) without the necessary expertise and qualifications. Now, Saghayi's new position at Payvand Toos indicates that familial and political relationships continue to serve as the main factor in promoting ineffective managers.
Legal Silence Behind Dual Citizenship
One interesting point about Saghayi is the discussion of his dual citizenship. According to informed sources, he holds Turkish citizenship and has purchased properties in that country, raising legal questions about his managerial appointments. In a situation where inefficiency and corruption in government management are clearly observable, these appointments continue to weigh heavily on the hearts of the nation.
These realities indicate that management based on competence and expertise in the country's executive structure still seems to be a wish.
