In a contentious session, members of the Islamic Consultative Assembly on February 16 added a controversial clause to the 2025 budget bill that could create significant changes in the fuel distribution system. With the approval of this clause, fuel cards, which have long been recognized as a symbol of fuel subsidy allocation, will gradually be phased out.
Integration and Transparency in Distribution
The main goal of this decision has been declared as the integration of the fuel subsidy allocation system and increasing transparency in the distribution of quotas. Accordingly, gasoline quotas will be transferred to bank cards, and this change seems to be aimed at reducing current complexities and improving oversight of fuel distribution.
