The continuation of protests on Friday, January 1st, reached various cities in Iran. According to published images, the funeral of Hesam Khodayari turned into clashes between protesters and security forces. Hesam's father had explicitly stated that his son was not a Basij member, and this statement sparked further protests.
Expansion of Protests
The increase of Basij forces and special guards in some northern cities, as well as the emergence of protests in larger cities like Shiraz, indicates a growing level of discontent. In Zahedan, protesters raised their voices with slogans to make themselves heard by the authorities.
These protests, occurring on a day when markets and various cities are closed, signify a shift in the level of discontent from economic issues to a direct confrontation between protesters and the authorities. It seems that protesters are no longer satisfied with past promises and are voicing their demands more loudly.
