Gathering in Unbearable Heat
On Sunday, July 18th, while thermometers showed over 50 degrees and offices had reduced their working hours due to the intense heat, retirees in Shush County once again gathered in front of the Social Security Organization. This gathering, which has become a weekly tradition, reflects the serious protests of this group who demand attention to their legal rights and overdue payments.
Unanswered Demands of Retirees
These retirees, whose voices are heard through various media, demand the proper and complete implementation of pension adjustments in the third year according to parliamentary research. Increased benefits, establishment of survivor benefits, payment of arrears for the first two months of the year, and implementation of Article 54 for free healthcare are among their other requests. These demands highlight the deep challenges retirees face.
Meanwhile, the removal of supplementary insurance and fair implementation of Articles 89 and 69 for all retirees and employees of the Social Security Organization are special requests voiced by the protesters. They urge the government to maintain the independence of the Social Security Organization and pay its debts to this organization. Retirees believe that by doing so, there will be no excuse for not paying the legal arrears.
