Washington has once again demonstrated its commitment to strengthening its military presence in the region by announcing the deployment of over two thousand Marines, three warships, and about twenty F-35B fighter jets from bases in Japan to the Middle East.
Marine Operational Group and Its Objectives
According to published information, these forces are being deployed as part of a marine operational group commanded by the ship "Tripoli." The ship "Tripoli," along with two other ships named "San Diego" and "New Orleans," forms the core of this operational group. These ships, capable of transporting military personnel and heavy equipment, as well as conducting support operations at sea and onshore, are considered amphibious vessels of the U.S. Navy.
In this military deployment, about twenty vertical takeoff and landing F-35B Lightning fighter jets will also be present. These jets are capable of taking off from amphibious ships and conducting close air support missions and combat operations.
Why This Deployment?
The ship "Tripoli" and the 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit were previously stationed at U.S. military bases in the cities of Sasebo and Okinawa in Japan and are now being deployed from those bases to the Middle East. U.S. officials have stated that the aim of this action is to enhance deterrence and increase the readiness of military forces in the region.
