The Ladder of Power for Sons-in-Law; When Family Ties Replace Merit

Amidst the unemployment crisis and discrimination in Khuzestan, the son-in-law of a parliament member has climbed the career ladder thanks to family connections.

The Ladder of Power for Sons-in-Law; When Family Ties Replace Merit

In the complex and economically challenging structure of the Islamic Republic, some family ties are not just simple connections; they can act as ladders to power and influence. Mehdi Modat, the son-in-law of Amir Hayat Moghadam, a parliament member, is an example of this situation. He has now been appointed as a board member of the National Petrochemical Industries Company and seems to be aspiring for higher positions in this industry.

Youths of Khuzestan Facing Closed Doors

While many talented and educated youths in Khuzestan face closed doors and struggle daily with unemployment and poverty, Modat, backed by his family and political connections, is rapidly advancing. This is while the province faces serious challenges, including discrimination, urban decay, and lack of sustainable development.

Family Privilege or Individual Merit?

The important question is whether these appointments are made based on real merits or merely the result of family and political connections? Is Modat aiming for a managerial seat, or does he have more ambitious goals like entering the political arena and the next elections?

What is certain is that such trends reinforce a cycle that not only does not benefit the people but also fattens the rent-seekers and further devastates Khuzestan. In such circumstances, it is time to closely examine and bring transparency to such appointments and to make merit, rather than family ties, the criterion for selection.
