Widespread Land Grabbing Corruption in Hendijan; New Arrests and Unanswered Questions

Several months after Feydus's revelations about corruption and land grabbing by some security and law enforcement officials in Hendijan, news has emerged about the arrest of individuals from this land-grabbing gang. According to reports, a retired intelligence member from Hendijan named Mansour Shahabi, in collaboration with some members of the police force, the municipality, and related departments, seized, forged documents for, and sold 68,000 square meters of land in the northernmost part of Hendijan.

Details of Land Sales and Distribution

According to available documents, about 30,000 meters of this land was sold at a high price, and another 38,000 meters were distributed among police and municipal staff. This issue, once exposed, led to the resignation of Rouhollah Derakhshan, the mayor of Hendijan. However, informed sources have stated that the main reason for the resignation was the threat of dismissal, and Derakhshan chose to resign before being dismissed.

The recent arrests in this case have sparked protests, as the arrest of some mid-level individuals has left the main ringleaders of the land grabbing untouched. It has been announced in the news that following the investigation of reports and administrative violations in one of the county's major departments, an employee of that department, with a known identity, was arrested by order and warrant of the judicial authority.

The Role of Oversight Bodies in Corruption

The county police commander in Hendijan added: The suspect, after the case was filed and initial actions were taken, was introduced to the prosecutor's office for legal proceedings and was sent to prison with the issuance of appropriate bail. The question is how such a large-scale corruption, involving land use changes and document forgery, could have occurred without the knowledge of oversight and executive bodies in Hendijan.

Therefore, if arrests stop at the level of a few administrative employees, it must be said that the corruption gang, with the connections they have, has managed to keep the main figures out of the investigation circle. This could lead to the continuation of corruption in another form and provide cover for the main perpetrators.
