Controversial Return of Adel Karimnasab to Amir Kabir Petrochemical: Which Khuzestan Security Agency Approved 'Riyun's' Qualification?

The return of Adel Karimnasab to Amir Kabir Petrochemical, given his controversial history in economic and ethical corruption, has sparked significant discussions in the petrochemical industry. This appointment raises questions about how his qualifications were approved by Khuzestan's security agencies.

Controversial Return of Adel Karimnasab to Amir Kabir Petrochemical: Which Khuzestan Security Agency Approved 'Riyun's' Qualification?

The news of the return of Adel Karimnasab, known as 'Adel Riyun', to the management structure of Amir Kabir Petrochemical and his name being proposed for the head of personnel affairs of this company has become one of the most controversial topics among petrochemical industry employees in the Bandar Mahshahr region in recent days.

The sensitivity of this appointment is not only related to the importance of the personnel affairs position in a company with several thousand direct and indirect employees; rather, it primarily relates to the history associated with Adel Karimnasab over the past decade in various administrative and industrial complexes, which has been accompanied by economic and ethical corruption.

Informed sources in this company say that the issue of his presence at the head of personnel affairs has been raised and the related processes have been completed, and in such circumstances, the main question is how the qualification review process for an individual with such a controversial history and critical reports has been conducted.

From Adel Riyun to Adel Karimnasab

The name 'Adel Riyun' has been seen in the political and executive space of Khuzestan at least since the mid-2010s. On January 13, 2016, he was introduced as the head of the election headquarters of the Development and Justice Party of Islamic Iran in Khuzestan province. A few months later, orders were issued with his signature in the same position.

On December 26, 2016, a report was published from a meeting in Tehran that introduced Adel Riyun as one of the 'managers of the Secretariat of the Expediency Discernment Council'. In July 2017, local sources again referred to him with the same title. These documents at least confirm his presence in the structure of the Secretariat of the Expediency Discernment Council at that time. However, regarding the end of his cooperation with the council, later sources confirmed that Riyun was dismissed from this complex due to brokerage and facilitation.

Entry into Amir Kabir Petrochemical

The name Adel Riyun later appeared in the petrochemical industry with the surname 'Karimnasab'. The 'Transparent Economy' channel reported years ago that Adel Riyun, after changing his surname to Karimnasab, was appointed as an advisor to the CEO and head of inspection at Amir Kabir Petrochemical. The same source wrote that he had no prior experience in the petrochemical industry.

This issue from the very beginning raised criticisms about how he entered one of the country's most important petrochemical companies with corruption controversies.

In the following years, the media and specialized oil and petrochemical industry channels published a series of accusations regarding his performance in procurement, services, inspection, and company contracts.

Karimnasab's activity not only as a manager but even as an employee in the petrochemical industry was at one point opposed by supervisory and security agencies, and even his entry into the company was restricted. In this regard, the Khuzestan Intelligence Department sent an official letter to the security authorities.

Masjed Soleyman Petrochemical; Another Ring of Controversy

Another part of the published reports relates to Karimnasab's tenure at Masjed Soleyman Petrochemical. Some sources have noted that he was confirmed to have held the position of head of procurement at Masjed Soleyman Petrochemical at one point and was then dismissed due to what this media called widespread 'financial misconduct'. This issue has been confirmed by official sources of Masjed Soleyman Petrochemical and security documents.

The repetition of Riyun's name in corruption reports related to several different complexes, especially when he is supposed to take responsibility for the human resources of thousands of employees, is an issue that cannot be overlooked.

Re-entry into Petrochemical Company Structures

Karimnasab's name reappeared in petrochemical industry news in April 2022. Published reports about the developments in Shimi Baft Company show that he was appointed as the 'Head of Supervision, Inspection, and Performance Evaluation' of this company at that time. This issue was seriously criticized by the media due to Karimnasab's negative background. This history is particularly important because it shows that Karimnasab, after leaving Amir Kabir or Masjed Soleyman Petrochemical, did not leave the industry and was able to re-enter the management structure of petrochemical companies.

Return to Amir Kabir During Saeed Sadeghi's Management

Amir Kabir Petrochemical has witnessed rapid management changes over the past three years. Saeed Sadeghi replaced Yadollah Mosadeghi-Fard on June 12, 2025. After subsequent changes, initially Mohammadi, then Ali Hayati officially became the CEO on December 29, 2025, and finally, Hesam Khoshbinfar took over the company's management on July 16, 2026, with the board of directors' vote.

Now, Fidus sources say, Adel Riyun, who was banned from entering Amir Kabir Petrochemical due to financial and administrative corruption in the services and restaurant department during Saeed Sadeghi's management and during Ali Hayati's CEO tenure, is set to sit in one of the most important positions in the human resources domain.

This issue is important because personnel affairs in Amir Kabir Petrochemical is not just a regular administrative unit. Decisions in this section directly affect recruitment, contracts, job promotions, benefits, personnel files, and the future careers of thousands of company employees. With such a position, it is natural that the background of the manager who is supposed to be responsible for personnel affairs should be scrutinized more than many other positions.

Meetings at Ayatollah Jazayeri's Residence

The most sensitive part of the story relates to the qualification approval process for Karimnasab by the Khuzestan Intelligence Department. Informed sources have revealed that during his qualification review, a meeting was held with the presence of Ayatollah Seyyed Mohammad Ali Mousavi Jazayeri, the former representative of the Supreme Leader in Khuzestan, and the provincial intelligence director, where Karimnasab's situation was discussed.

According to these sources, the security official present at the meeting was asked to assist with Karimnasab's qualification issue. It is said that Jazayeri's support for Riyun, despite his corruption documents, is related to a film taken during a late-night meeting of this individual with the son of the former Friday prayer leader of Khuzestan in an inappropriate situation.

Supervisory Bodies Must Respond

The issue of Adel Karimnasab is now no longer just a matter of an appointment at Amir Kabir Petrochemical. If the claims regarding previous disqualifications are incorrect, the responsible bodies can explicitly announce it. If such records exist, the public and Amir Kabir Petrochemical employees have the right to know on what new evidence his qualification status has changed.

Why has someone whose name has been repeatedly mentioned in corruption reports related to several different complexes been chosen for one of the most sensitive positions related to the human resources of a large company?

Did the board of directors review his background before making this decision? Did the Ministry of Intelligence and other legal authorities issue a positive inquiry for this appointment? And most importantly, if the reports of previous supervisory bodies' objections are true, what has happened that the previous obstacle has now been removed?

In an industry where the appointment of human resources managers is directly related to the rights, job security, and future of thousands of workers and employees, answering these questions is not a personal or factional issue.

Clarification about the selection and qualification process of Adel Karimnasab is now a responsibility that lies with Amir Kabir Petrochemical, the company's shareholders, and Khuzestan's supervisory bodies. Silence in the face of these questions, instead of ending the controversies, will only add to the existing ambiguities.
